International Wardriving day 2002

Basically the idea came up on the Netstumbler forum to organize an effort to scan large areas all at once to cover more ground and share data, all on the same day. The idea of some friendly competition also came into it.

Chris at Security tribe who was responsible for the Defcon wardrive contest wanted to get a few people together to group scan the Baltimore/Washington area and it just sort of exploded from there when I wanted to get others together to scan Red-Deer.

More details and planning can be found through This Netstumbler thread and This thread. Chris has a couple pages related to this effort Here and here for a history

The Mission:

The Alberta contribution will be a co-ordinated scan of Red-Deer by Wardrivers from Edmonton, Calgary and anywhere else people show up from. There is no-one I know of that has done any significant scan of Red-Deer and it's central location makes perfect sense.

Date: Saturday, August 31st
Time: 10AM - ???
Place: Red-Deer, Alberta
Meeting place: White Spot parking lot at 6701 50th Avenue.
Rough GPS co-ordinates are: 52.288N - 113.813W

The easiest way there is to take HWY 2 and take the exit for 67st and just follow it along to Gaetz Ave and you'll see the White Spot on the corner.
Here's a Map for those that need it

We are meeting at 10, starting driving at 11. This gives us time to divide up the city and get things sorted. We will meet back at the restaurant a couple hours later (depends on the number of people and the speed of the stumble) and trade data and have lunch. After that we can all stumble home through the various small towns along the way to our respective cities

Media has been invited! If you have any concerns about your name/face being associated with this event, Just say so. I'm planning on keeping an eye on them to make sure they respect us and our right to privacy. Asking permission before taking pictures is going to be a definate rule.

Here's the press release we sent out
